Trading Renewable Energy Certificates (REC)

Renewable Energy (RE) is energy which is produced from such resources that are naturally replenished such that there is no depletion of any natural resources. These include biomass, biogas, the sun, wind, and small hydro power among others.

A Renewable Energy Certificate (REC) is a market based instrument which provides evidence that a generator has produced a certain amount of electricity from a RE resource. A Renewable Energy Certificate signifies the environmental attribute of the renewable energy.

RECs can be traded in the market to meet Renewable Purchase Obligation (RPO) Which refers to Renewable Purchase Obligation and is mandated by SERCs and alongwith other Acts is mainly guided by CERC (Terms for Issuance and Recognition of Renewable Energy Certificate for Renewable Energy Generation) Regulations, 2010.

Trading in Renewable Energy Certificates, REC, products PXIL secured permission from the Hon’ble Commission to trade in the REC Market on September 17, 2010. NLDC has been designated as the Central Agency for the REC scheme which has been initiated to garner investment in Renewable Energy production.

As in the case of the physical power trading platform, PXIL has developed the REC trading platform in-house, leveraging on its superior product development skills and understanding of markets.
